We can apply many different finishes to our products, and the following can be selected by using the drop down menu when placing your order.
Polished brass – lacquered (PL)
Brass is polished to a high standard and then a tough clear lacquer is applied. Not suitable for exterior fittings.
Maintenance:– Occasionally wipe with a damp cloth and apply a wax polish to help protect the finish.
Polished brass – unlacquered (PB)
Brass is polished to a high standard and left to age naturally. The picture shows an item which has been left to tarnish over time. Suitable for exterior fittings.
Maintenance:- The item can be polished to return it to its original state and a clear wax polish can be applied to help protect the finish.
Satin brass (SB)
The polished brass item is sateened, and then lacquered. If required, a clear wax can be applied instead of the lacquer coating. Not suitable for exterior fittings.
Maintenance for lacquered items:- Occasionally wipe with a damp cloth and apply a clear wax polish to help protect the finish.
Antique brass (AB)
This is a living finish which will age and wear as the item is used.
A protective wax finish is applied.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth and then a clear wax polish applied to help protect the finish.
Aged brass (AGB)
The polished brass item is hand burnished to give the effect of an old brass product. A tough clear lacquer is applied. If required, we can supply unlacquered with a wax coating applied, in which case it will be a living finish which will oxidise over time.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth and then a clear wax polish applied to help protect the finish.
Imitation bronze metal antique (IB)
The polished brass item is copper plated and then has the black imitation bronze metal antique finish applied. The item is then relieved which allows the copper to show through on the high spots.
A protective wax coating is applied.
This is a living finish: as the item is used the copper colour will become more obvious.
Please note that some flat items, such as hinges, do not have a satisfactory shape to be relieved.

Dark imitation bronze metal antique (DIB)
The polished brass item is copper plated and then has the black imitation bronze metal antique finish applied.
A protective wax coating is applied.
This is a living finish: as the item is used the copper colour will become more obvious.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth and then a clear wax polish applied to help protect the finish.
Antique bronze (ABZ)
This finish gives the effect of weathered bronze. A clear wax coating is applied to protect the finish during installation.
This is a living finish which will oxidise and patina over time.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth and then a clear wax polish applied to help protect the finish.
Polished chrome plated (CH)
The polished brass item is chrome plated giving a very durable finish.
Ideal for exterior fittings.
Maintenance:- can be polished using a metal polish. Using a thin coating of clear wax polish will help to maintain the finish.
Satin chrome plated (SC)
The chrome plated finish is sateened.
Ideal for exterior fittings.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth then use a non-abrasive metal polish such as “Brasso”. Using a thin coating of clear wax polish will help to maintain the finish.
Polished nickel plated (NP)
The polished brass item is nickel plated. The finish will tone down in time.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth then use a non-abrasive metal polish such as “Brasso”. Using a thin coating of clear wax polish will help to maintain the finish.
Satin nickel plated (SN)
The polished nickel plated item is sateened. The finish will tone down in time.
Maintenance:- the item should be wiped over with a damp cloth then use a non-abrasive metal polish such as “Brasso”. Using a thin coating of clear wax polish will help to maintain the finish.
Polished copper plated (CO)
The polished brass item is copper plated and then lacquered.
Not suitable for exterior use. If required, we can leave it unlacquered, in which case it will take on a patina.
Maintenance for lacquered items:- Occasionally wipe with a damp cloth and apply a clear wax polish to help protect the finish.
Satin copper plated (SCO)
The sateened item is copper plated and then lacquered.
Not suitable for exterior use. If required, we can leave it unlacquered, in which case it will take on a patina.

Polished stainless steel (PS)

In addition to our standard finishes, we can apply other finishes, some of which are given below. Bear in mind that if you are looking for a finish not listed please let us know. We are sure we can help.

Gold plated (GP)
The polished brass item is gold plated to whatever specification is required.
Silver plated (SP)
The polished brass item is silver plated to whatever specification is required.
The item will require regular polishing, but this can be avoided if the item is rhodium plated instead.
Black nickel plated (BN)
The polished brass is black nickel plated and then lacquered.
Not suitable for exterior use.
Rhodium plated (RO)
The polished brass item is rhodium plated, which gives the appearance of silver plate but is maintenance free.
